ALBERT EINSTEIN ON EVIL [PRO DEATH PENALTY QUOTE OF THE WEEK ~ SUNDAY APRIL 13, 2014 TO SATURDAY APRIL 19, 2014]

QUOTE: “The world is a dangerous place to live, not because of the people who are evil, but because of the people who don't do anything about it.”
  • The earliest published source located on google books is The Harper Book of Quotations by Robert I. Fitzhenry (1993), p. 356.
  • Variant: The world is a dangerous place, not because of those who do evil, but because of those who look on and do nothing.
    • As quoted in Conscious Courage : Turning Everyday Challenges Into Opportunities (2004) by Maureen Stearns, p. 99
  • Though widely attributed in these forms, they are apparently paraphrased from the quote "the world is in greater peril from those who tolerate or encourage evil than from those who actually commit it" from Conversations with Casals (1957), listed above in the "1950s" section.
AUTHOR: Albert Einstein (14 March 1879 - 18 April 1955) was a physicist who is widely regarded as one of the most influential scientists of all time. He is best-known for his Special and General Theories of Relativity, but contributed in other areas of physics. He won the Nobel Prize in physics for his explanation of the photoelectric effect.

APPLICATION: We do know that Albert Einstein himself was an opponent of the death penalty because he was a pacifist. But we still use this as one of our quotes in pursuit of justice for victims and their families and it is a quote to remind us to defeat the ACLU Demons. It is a similar quote to the one of Edmund Burke.
